National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah

Master plan

Preliminary Report

Initially Museum Director, Kate Ayres, instructed by the sheikh required input for a preliminary report documenting the current situation of the Museum, and outlining a plan for how the site might be developed. Motivation played a role initially in suggestions for the development of the interpretative mix within the galleries and also how visitor flow might be improved.

Development of Team RAK

The Preliminary Report was enthusiastically received by the client and the sheikh and the go-ahead was given for the creating of a Master Plan. This required the appointment of a team of museum design professionals who were recruited by Adrian Bowles of Motivation, to undertake the extensive work involved, over an 18 month period.

The team included specialists in:

  • Museum Design
  • Audio Visual and Virtual Reality
  • Interpretative Brand Design & Development
  • Technical Hardware Specification

The Master Plan

The project grew in scale to encompass the design of a completely new museum complex including conservation labs, education centre and offices
